House on Fire

In the heat of the summer Ironton offers an exhibition that explores the coldest of places.

At the farthest latitudes upon the globe there exist landscapes of sheer ice, perhaps the final stretches of 'pure' wilderness on the planet. The shrinking of this once vast terrain has inspired two artists to evaluate what possibilities exist for our efforts at restoring these globally valuable regions.
Timothy Berg's sculptural and installation work subverts the typical value systems associated with nature. In this exhibition Berg will identify how what is 'comfortable' may not always be in our own best interest. Bob Koons' paintings examine underlying, artificial perspectives that inform our perception of wilderness in the landscape. Through a cultural lens Koons identifies new opportunities for survival no matter how absurd.
Berg and Koons negotiate the complexities of societal expectations in order to make people aware of the glacial speed at which attitudes change.

Ironton Studios is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 4, and Saturdays from 12 to 4.
