and Drawings by Heidi Jung
Opening Reception on Friday, june
1st from 6-9pm in conjunction with "an
evening in rino"

In the month of June Ironton is pleased to host sculptor John
Ferguson and photographer and painter Heidi
Jung as they exhibit
recent work.
Sculptor John Ferguson works in primarily in steel
and often combines materials such as concrete, glass, rock, wood
and reed. While working to exploit the contrast in texture and
material differences the objects take on an implied antiquity.
This body of work focuses on the relationships between man, machine,
and nature. The act of welding and forging is an activity that
itself informs the work; it illustrates the individuals desire
to control and form nature. Ferguson was recently awarded a commission
for COMITIS, a crisis center located on the Fitzsimons campus in
Aurora. He is represented locally by Walker Fine Art.
Heidi Jung’s
small black and white photographs of plants and trees are intimate
portraits of the natural world. The formality of these images is
in contrast to the drawings that they inspire. Incorporating bold
monochromatic mark making using ink and charcoal, the large drawings
imply nature’s inherent mystery and ambivalent
ferocity. The photos and the drawings, exhibited together, depict
Jung’s use of botanicals
in a way to access her concern for the aesthetics of an image.
Recent acquisitions of her work include the Hyatt at Beaver Creek
and the Museum Lofts, designed by Daniel Libeskind, where her work
was recently featured.
Ironton Studios is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 4, and
Saturdays from 12 to 4.
