NEMESIS
New Paintings by Robin Schaefer
Artist Reception on Friday, March
2nd, 7-10pm

Robin Schaefer's new collection of paintings
continue to explore the interaction of seemingly unrelated
objects. Each canvas features a close-up of various fruits
and vegetables, such as peaches, apples, plums, and eggplants
interacting with pieces of hardware including springs, nails,
and screws. Every composition is bathed in dramatic light
contrasted against a rich black background formulated by multiple
layers of deep color. The illuminated objects seem to
either emerge or recede into the gloom, edges become ambiguous,
and simple objects acquire a sinister countenance when spotlighted
in such intimate detail. The reflections and shadows
of the hardware cast ominously onto the smooth organic surfaces
of the fruit. Schaefer's technical precision brings to
life these common objects with lustrous, vivid realism; every
freckle and dent is meticulously executed.
Ironton Studios is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 4, and
Saturdays from 12 to 4.
