RiNo Ironton is proud to be a member of the River North Art District (RiNo).

Thanks to all who attended our most recent RiNo event (where art is made, the process...), which took place on Saturday, May 13th, 2006 from 1-5pm, with an after party at Taxi from 5 to 7. Ironton hosted an Iron Pour (coordinated by Rian Cerrane of UCD). We're working on getting some video of the event edited into a palatable form. In the meantime, we've posted a few photos on flickr. More information is available on the the RiNo website at rivernorthart.com.

Disparate Women
"Year of Art, Year of Words"
Artist's Reception on May 26th from 6 to 10pm.

Year of Art/Year of Words is an art exhibit unlike any other. It is about process as well as product. In 2005 this group of women artists came up with the idea of focusing on one word each week for an entire year. This was to inspire them to constantly be thinking about creating new artwork and to have the pleasure and intellectual excitement of discussing together the process and progress of their ideas.

Professional artists and longtime friends, the women have been meeting once a month for years to share and critique their latest artworks. Each pursues her own creative path working in a range of media including poetry, fiber, paint, photography, jewelry, printmaking, drawing, stonecarving, and mixed media. The participating artists are Loay Boggess, Sue Fedenia, Barbara Keating, Nancy Lund, Maureen Maker, Candy Markley, Alita Pirkopf, Helen Ragheb, Vicki Rottman, and Tilli Urban.

The Year of Art words range from the concrete (e.g. "Willow" and "Sun") to the abstract (e.g. "Clarity" and "Celebrate.") Even though they started with the same words, each artist interpreted them from her own life experience and philosophy. "Some words stimulated whole new directions and some words that seemed like duds at first are still haunting me." An ongoing email dialogue engendered a lively on-line discussion and inspired the artists to pursue further creative experiments.

The exhibit will include a sampling of the works created during the year, arranged by word theme. The works themselves, placed side by side, create their own dialogue. Some of the written discussion will also be on view.

Ironton Studios is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 4, and Saturdays from 12 to 4.
